Robert van Helsdingen   I was born in Djakarta (Indonesia) on 18 August 1948. My family moved to the Netherlands when I was seven years old. After my studies and the military, my working career has been in Information Technology (IT) since.  I have worked with various companies in the Netherlands, in Germany and in the US (Phoenix, Arizona). If you are interested in my career backgrounds, please have a look at my Resume. Next to my work, my main hobbies have been photography, collecting graphical novels and aviation. When I was 10-14 years old, I dreamed of becoming a pilot, as many boys of that age did. Well, I did not become a pilot and my career ended up in the world of IT. However, I have never lost my interest in aviation, specifically civil aviation. It has always been my main hobby and I have had my private pilot license for a number of years. It is this interest in civil aviation that made me look for some kind of encyclopedia on civil aviation in general, whether on CD-ROM or on the WEB. There is much literature available, but I have not been able to find an electronic version anywhere, not even with the help of books, magazines and the book on “The 300 best aviation sites on the WEB”, nor the many search engines that are available. Sure, there is a lot on the WEB, but most of it is associated with military aviation, or are mostly lists with links to current airline companies, airports and/or aircraft manufacturers. Therefore, I have decided to create my own encyclopedia on civil aviation. However, I have not been able yet to complete my encyclopedia. Reason? Well that is very simple. I have been working on our other projects / products with my partners in the meantime, such as flylowcost.com, which I implemented myself, and wegolo.com. Other products will certainly follow.
