Phenology as a scientific discipline becomes increasingly important. While the classical observation methods appear to be old-fashioned and are even criticised as unscientific, it turns out that the data on vegetation development provided by the phenologists during the last two centuries provide the most reliable information for the evaluation of global trends of environmental parameters. The book contains 10 chapters by various authors, dealing with (a.o.) seasonal changes of the appearances of higher plants, and seasonality analyses of animals and lower plants.
