De belangstelling voor het Tarotspel inspireerde Doetie Spinder in oktober 1994 tot een serie tekeningen van de Grote Arcana. De tekeningen werden in april 1995 voltooid. Doetie Spinder beschouwt de voorstellingen van de Grote Arcana als Archetypen: oerprincipes uit het collectief onderbewuste, zoals ze door C.G. Jung beschreven zijn. De uitbeelding van de Archetypen staat niet vast, omdat ze door ieder mens persoonlijk worden beleefd. De volgorde van de tekeningen werd bepaald door het willekeurig trekken van een kaart uit de Grote Arcana van het Aleister Crowley Tarotspel. Ook werd voor elke tekening literatuur over de Tarot geraadpleegd. Maar daarna zijn de tekeningen, net als de Mandala's hun eigen weg gegaan. Het resultaat is een serie van 22 zeer persoonlijke afbeeldingen van de Grote Arcana van het Tarotspel. De indrukken van een innerlijke reis langs de Archetypen, weergegeven in een mengeling van persoonlijke en eeuwenoude symboliek.

Doetie Spinder has been creating mandalaís since 1992. The Mandalas arise from a strong inner impulse. She starts with a basic idea but this often changes during the creative process. This why the results is often a surprise to herself also. Tarot-cards have a strong symbolism just like the mandalaís. Her interest in Tarot inspired her in October 1994, to make a series of drawings of the Major Arcana. These pictures, intuitively made, just like the mandalaís, were completed in April 1995. Doetie Spinder considers the images of the Major Arcana as archetypes: ancient principles of the collective subconsciousness as they are described by C.G. Jung. The depiction of these archetypes is not fixed, because they are individually experienced. The sequence of the drawings was determined by just picking a card from the Major Arcana of the Allister Crowley Tarot. This was followed by consultation of literature on Tarot, but after that the drawings, just like the mandalaís shaped themselves. The result is a series of 22 individual images of the Major Arcana of Tarot. Impressi ons of an inner journey along the archetypes, pictured in a mingle of personal and ancient symbols. |

De werkelijke oorsprong van De Tarot is niet bekend. Het is een oeroud, vaak in het geheim overgeleverd systeem van wijsheden. Net als de Chinese I Tjing is De Tarot door de eeuwen heen als raadgever beschouwd. Ook nu worden de tarotkaarten nog gebruikt om de toekomst te voorspellen. In de Middeleeuwen en ook later nog werd het Tarotspel vaak afgewezen en verboden door religieuze autoriteiten, omdat de afbeeldingen en ideeën in strijd waren met hun levensbeschouwelijke opvattingen. Tegenwoordig kan in bijna elke boekhandel en New Age winkel een van de vele verschillende pakjes Tarotkaarten met bijbehorende handleiding gekocht worden. De Tarot bestaat uit 78 kaarten, onderverdeeld in : - De Kleine Arcana: De Kleine Arcana bestaat uit 4 kaartsoorten : Staven, Bekers, Zwaarden en Schijven. Elke kaartsoort bestaat uit 14 kaarten, namelijk van 1 (Aas) t/m 10, plus een Ridder, Koningin, Prins en Prinses (De Hofkaarten). - De Grote Arcana: De Grote Arcana bestaat uit 22 kaarten, die het cijfer 0 plus de Romeinse cijfers I t/m XXI dragen. De 22 kaarten van de Grote Arcana zijn symbolische afbeeldingen van levensprincipes, universele wetten of collectieve ervaringen die door de hele mensheid, in alle tijden en alle samenlevings-vormen, ervaren worden. Deze universele grond-principes, door C.G. Jung Archetypen genoemd, liggen niet vast, maar worden individueel ervaren. |
The true origin of the tarot is unknown. It is an ancient system of wisdom, which has often come down to us in secret. Through the ages, it has been consulted for advice, just like the Chinese I Tjing. Even now the Tarot-cards are used to predict the future. During the Middle Ages and also later the Tarot was often forbidden and rejected by religious authorities, because the ideas and images were inconsistent with their ideological principles. Today, in almost every New-Age or normal bookshop one of the many packs of Tarot-cards can be bought together with the instruction for use. The Tarot consists of 78 cards, subdivided into: - The Minor Arcana: The Minor Arcana consists of 4 different kind of cards: wands, cups, swords and disks Each kind consists of 14 cards, namely of 1 (ace) till 10 plus a knight, a queen, a prince and a princes (the Courtcards - The Major Arcana: The Major Arcana consists of 22 cards, carrying the figure o plus the Roman figures I till XXI The 22 cards of the Major Arcana are symbolical images of life-principles, universal laws and collective experiences, know to all human beings, in all times and in all societies. The universal principles, archetypes as they are called by C.G. Jung, are not fixed but the are experienced in an individual way.
