About the book:

Here is the first book dealing with all native or introduced French freshwater fishes, incorporating the latest available studies in biogeography, palaeontology, management, conservation, species introductions and genetics. It is intended for naturalists, researchers, fishermen, managers or aquarists. It is also meant as a tool for managers in contributing to the conservation of aquatic communities. After several chapters dealing with the biogeography and the conservation of species, various approaches are put forward which should help with species identification, namely illustrated keys and descriptive data sheets. These give a description of each species and further information on biology, ecology, distribution and conservation measures. There are over 100 original (colour) photographs, or line drawings, and as many detailed maps.
