De Keizer is het archetypische principe dat te maken heeft met het mannelijke beginsel yang tegenover het vrouwelijke beginsel yin. Zoals de Keizerin Moeder Aarde is, is De Keizer Vader Aarde. De Keizer symboliseert de vader, autoritair en rechtvaardig, zoals Jaweh de toornige en bestraffende god uit Het Oude Testament, maar ook de vertegenwoordiger van het wereldlijk gezag.

De Keizer op de tekening bevindt zich op een schaakbord en houdt de wereldbol in zijn handen. Om hem heen staan figuren die hem helpen om de macht te handhaven. Aan weerskanten staan: een nar (vermaak), een soldaat (leger), een bediende (onopvallend, maar onmisbaar) en de magiër (raadgever).

The Emperor on the drawing is on a chessboard, holding the globe in his hands. On each side jester (amusement), a soldier (the army), a servant (hardly visible but essential) and a magician (advice) are standing, helping him to rule the world.
