SEIZOENOVERZICHT 2000-2001

NEDERLANDS DANS THEATER

programme 1 - NDT1

Hans van Manen - Kammerballett
Hans van Manen - new work
Jir Kylin - Half Past
Paul Lightfoot - SH-Boom

The opening programme of NDT 1 this season focuses on Hans van Manen, with a performance of his 1995 masterpiece Kammerballett to the accompaniment of piano music by Karayev, Cage and Scarlatti. He will also be choreographing a new piece for the company.
In early November this year Hans van Manen, resident choreographer of the Nederlands Dans Theater, will be presented with the Erasmus Prize 2000. He has been awarded this prestigious prize in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Dutch dance.

Half Past is one of Jir Kylin's most recent works, a fascinating combination of penetrating video images and contemplative dance.

Paul Lightfoot created quite a stir in 1994 with his contribution to the choreography workshop. SH-Boom is a humorous, playful and entertaining work which draws on the evergreen favourites of Vera Lynn and Stan Freberg.

programme 2 - NDT1

Jir Kylin - Stepping Stones
Jir Kylin - new work
Jir Kylin - Svadebka

This season the Nederlands Dans Theater is honouring its former artistic director Jir Kylin with two programmes.
This first programme presents works which reflect on his artistic development.
Jir Kylin's visit to the Aborigines inspired him to create Nomaden (Nomads) (1981) and Stamping Ground (1983). These experiences left their mark in later pieces too, such as Stepping Stones which he made in 1991 for the Stuttgart Ballet.
Svadebka (Russian for 'wedding') from 1982 is a powerful, primeval wedding that Kylin based on a rhythmical cantata of Stravinsky.
Jir Kylin will also be making a new work for NDT 1.

Programme 3 - NDT1

Jir Kylin - No More Play
Jir Kylin - Petite Mort
Jir Kylin - Sarabande
Jir Kylin - Falling Angels
Jir Kylin - Sweet Dreams
Jir Kylin - Sechs Tnze

The second Kylin programme comprises six works, also known as his 'black-and-white ballets': sober costumes, abstract decors and radical lighting.
Kylin himself describes No More Play as a 'choreographic play of bodies, the mind, sound and light in time and space'.
Petite Mort is an ode to Mozart and love.
The fascinating Sarabande is set to Bach's Second Partita for Violin and a sound design by Dick Heuff.
Falling Angels is a dance piece set to a live performance of 'Drumming' by Steve Reich.
The atmosphere of Sweet Dreams is invoked by the music of Webern: a serious composition interspersed from time to time with bizarre humour.
Finally, Sechs Tnze is a humorous and light-footed ballet set to the waltz music of Mozart.

Programme 4 - NDT1
with Het Nederlands Balletorkest

Johan Inger - new work
Patrick Delcroix - new work
and more..............
