This book contains the papers presented at the Third Workshop
on Sulphur Metabolism in Higher Plants held at the University of Newcastle upon
Tyne from 9-13 April 1996, and organised by the Universities of Newcastle upon
Tyne, Bern, Groningen and the Albert-Ludwigs-University, Freiburg.
The understanding of sulphur metabolism and physiology in higher plants is progressing
ever more rapidly. The present book contains reviews of major current areas
of work, of which molecular biological understanding is the most striking development
in the last few years. Interestingly, but not entirely unexpectedly, it has
raised problems yet to be solved at the whole plant physiological level.
