Travelling after the Dutch settlers,
a coast-to-coast drive on the American backroads
In the months October and November 1996, Dutch journalists Anne
Wesseling and Abram Donkers travelled through the United States, searching
for Dutch influences on the American society. They found a lot, for example
28 places called Holland.

Their experiences are published by De Geus in Breda, The Netherlands (Dutch only, for now...)

(220 pages, ISBN 905226 561 5, price Dfl 39,90).
The book contains portraits of all 28 Hollands and their inhabitants, the historic backgrounds and the story of more than 12.000 miles through Small Town America. Holland, USA is a combination of a roadmovie script, the history of Dutch migration to the US and impressions of two travellers.

'Holland, USA' is made possible by
You can read about the Holland, USA project in several American newspapers. For instance, have a look at the Holland Sentinel, the daily paper for the Western Michigan region. You can read an interview with the authors online.
Also, a net-readable article appeared in the Temple Daily Telegram (Texas). We even have the clippings (frontpage and page 6A).
The Virginian-Pilot (Virginia) also did a feature about the project.
