WHO LIVES IN A HOUSE LIKE THIS
By Lloyd Grossman
Here we at the entrance to the house for this weeks episode, and.
straining the ears, one can hear the dulcet tones of one of the true
Country and Western giants, Kenny Rogers. Gosh. And entering the house,
there are two cricket bags from Greenidge & Latham, each containing a
single cricket shoe, pad, glove, two boxes, two bats and two balls. And
the person living here also appears to be keen on horse riding, as a
Jockeys helmet is lying next to a wooden hobbey-horse. How bizarre.<Canned laughter ensues>
Walking into the master bedroom, I notice the other resident of the
household on the telephone which is shaped like a Conch Shell, and catch
the last two words of his sentence -".... not home". Golly.Moving on into the second bedroom, there is more cricket gears lying
around, and a framed 'Guyana Youth Cricket cap' on the wall. And what is
this bedside reading, 'The Complete Low Fat Diet', 'Effective Exercise',
'Keep in Shape'. Jeepers, the person living in this house must be a real
health fanatic, and whats this scattered across the floor? Three empty
beer bottles and the discarded wrappings of a take away Shoarma.<More Canned laughter>
Lets have a look in the living room, and whats this? A photograph of the
Test Match Special commentary team, with the message 'Sorry you couldn't
make it for the big game - signed Brian Johnson'. Wow - this must be a
very old photograph, as Brian died some years ago. And examing the phone
book, we find some very exotic sounding names 'Godfrey Edwards',
'Orville Senhousen' and 'Elroy George'. Next to the phone is a scrap of
paper with 'VVV - them play we next week' written on it. On the
bookshelf in this room are various books on cricket commentary, as well
as 'Richie Richardson's guide to Umpiring'.
Taking a peep into the cloakroom, there is a bright yellow jacket
hanging - maybe this person works on the railways? And whats this, a
huge collection of baseball caps. There is a walking stick propped in
the corner, and all around the house, Thistle tops arelying on the
carpet.
So lets examine the evidenceWho lives in a house like this ?
